Thanks Brie! I always shudder when people complain about all the abandoned library blogs out there... but then again - I don't write here for professional development. And with the beauty of RSS I don't mind people who don't post too frequently because I always know when they do.

I would always cringe with that class (often NOT online!!) that involved all that online participation stuff. On the one hand, I get it; discussing, brainstorming, and etc. with peers & instructors is all good stuff. But, library school, IMO, takes online discourse to a new level. With all of us being grad students and as such also often having rich lives outside of school, it made for harried classes and semesters. And yes, by the time you finish your blog or your fiftieth Oncourse discussion, there is little time and often even less inclination to write anything else.

You're faring better than I. I haven't kept up with the blog I created ages ago. Even if you go mute for a while, I'm confident you'll pick it back up and all will be well. =)

The VR position was only advertised to graduate students in my program and will be a 'previous job' once I graduate. I'm not sure what the quality of the other applicants were so I'm not sure why 'I' got it and not somebody else. Obviously I met there qualifications, but like all job related stuff these days its not about merely meeting the qualifications... If I had the answers to why and how people get hired I'd blast for free on the internet - it has always remained a mystery to me.

I would love to know how you snagged a VR position...

Anonymity is a double edged sword - but I don't think the problems we are having are unique - I think we're in the middle of a big shift in what people expect from their education and education providers. Thanks for the support. People don't like anonymous blogs and often rail against those like the Annoyed Librarian, but I feel like none of this would have been an issue if I had made the blog anonymous and not traceable back to me. I would have then been able to continue providing information. I hate that this program is so backwards sometimes... we study information, and yet there is so little transparency within the school. I feel muzzled.

I highly doubt it (taking notice of discontent). The director on the way out certainly is not going to care, the one who ends up coming in is going to have too much on the plate to really be able to address it effectively initially. Everybody else has to worry about their jobs or tenure or whatnot. And its academia - things chug along at a tepid pace anyway. I'm always optimistic that things change for the better - just usually not until after I'm through! Thanks for the comment :-)

Good post, Eeyore. I, too, was using the posts to stay up to date on what was going on at the school since I couldn't attend the student forums. What I'm wondering is if the administration looked farther than its privacy concern and actually read the part of the posts that addressed the growing discontent amongst the student population. There are decidedly more changes needed than just the head of the school.
